I was thinking about the cheapest possible way for someone to put together a BOB or basic survival kit. It is always nice to have the best knife, gun, stove, etc. but what if you don't have the money to spend on the best gear? I have BOBs already made up for me and the old lady, but I'm thinking about putting together a "super cheap BOB" or at least working up a list to make one for the fiscally challenged.

Here's what I have so far...

Any suggestions?

Just curious if anyone has checked to see how many calories worth of food they have in their BOB. I was going thru my food today and decided to add up the caloric value of all of it. Turns out I only had around 5500 calories. I'm figuring that that is about the bare minimum I'd need for 3 days...more than likely I'd need way more (especially if covering a lot of ground on foot carrying a pack.)

Guess I better get a couple more snickers bars and a few more bags of Jack Links!!

I saw someone mention these on another forum. I see them for sale quite often in Sportsmans Guide and even CTD for reasonable prices. I think it would be a good idea to have one on hand and a plan to set it up in case of an emergency such as power outage or when the economy crashes even more and I can't afford electric. I do have an ample supply of firewood in my backyard....well the woods anyway.

What would your plans be for heating your home during extended periods of no power?

Although this is probably an unlikely scenario it's always interesting to see what people say. These are defensive guns now, not hunting, that can be another topic.

So the there is absolute mayhem out the front door and everywhere else, what pistol, rifle and shotgun would you grab from yer stash? Or what would you like to grab but just don't have it yet? Or what is your dream go-to guns?

Mine woould be the AK, Glock 17 and Moss 590.

The dream team would be an original Kalishnikov ...

I have been looking for good CLP for my bug-out rifle cleaning kits. I did not want to put a bottle in my kits and have it end up leaking all over my gear. I found these on Cheaper Than Dirts website so I ordered up a ton of them to try out. They were around $4 for 25 of them. I like the idea that they are sealed and disposable so I will not have to worry about them leaking in long term storage,
