...a big fucking disapointment.

I found an ad for this axe company and checked out their website when I came home from work. I liked the looks of the website and I enjoyed reading about the history of the owners of the company. Then I made the HUGE mistake of taking a look at there line of axes. What a major fucking rip-off

Bryan Breedan is a custom knifemaker who has a pretty dedicated following over on Blade forums. The two knives below were designed by a blade forums member who is a Les Stroud type. I was thinking about haveing one made for me around tax return time as a SHTF/Survival knife. I have yet to decide which one I like better.

Any thoughts or comments.

The one at the show had a micarta handle on it though, very comfortable and simple........wonder why the show one was $200 and on the site with wood handles it is $100?

Here is the link to the knife-

I know that high carbon steel is easiest to sharpen, but is stainless worthwhile at all?

When it comes to a rigging knife its almost absolutely neccessary to have stainless steel (getting soaked in salt water and all). I have a Myerchin off shore folder that I carried when I was in the CG, and I love it...its the perfect rigging knife, it is extremely sharp, has very sharp serrations and has a folding ...

Here is an article on the proper method for sharpening a Scandi knife. Note that a knife with a Scandi edge does not get sharpened like a conventional blade. If you hold the blade at 20degrees to the sharpening stone you will put a secondary bevel on your Scandi that does not belong there

The rumor is that Chris Reeve is going to drop the one piece line form his catalog. So if you have ever wanted the only quality hollow handle survival knife on the market it is time to drop the coin and pick one up.

I owned a Sable IV and it was a very well made knife. I would have kept it but I did notlike the blade shape. If I can get my hands on a Mountaineer model then I'm going to have free up some cash and pick it up.

These knives start around $250 and go up rather quickly. ...

We were at a gunshow friday night and found this knife at one of the tables. Some were pretty crude with grinds all over the place but his most expensive knife was around $250 and he was using cool wood for the handles. I picked this one up for $49 and it's made of 1095 steel with wood that he called "purple heart". It definitely needs an edge put on it. I figure it is a one of knife and at a reasonable price, plus, might as well hook up a guy that was passionate about his shit. ...

This is a pretty interesting picture that will show you what can be done with a quality hatchet. Not an Axe but a little one hander. The author of the picture made stakes/wedges with it and then used the back of the hatchet to hammer them into this log and after time was able to split the log.

Pretty impressive!

Note: The hatchet used was a Vaughn and this picture was copied from Old Jimbo's website.

Schrade has been making a copy of the Chris Reeve line of hollow handled survival knives. I would have thought that it would be a pile of crap but the review I just read on Bladeforums makes me think that it may be worth $50 rather then $300 for a similar Chris Reeve knife.

Here is the knife

The handle is wrapped in some thin leather wrap and is fairly comfortable. It also came with a nice leather lanyard. The leather sheath is surprisingly nice, made out of thick cuts of real leather.
