I have a 50cal Lyman black powder rifle that I bought for deer hunting. Connecticut has a late season (December) if you hunt with one.

I prefer the more traditional looking guns with the hammer on the side and octagon barrels. These guns use a percusion cap for igniting the powder.

The modern Inline muzzle loaders use s shotgun primer placed directly behind the black powdeer for igniting the charge. This gives you more velocity and accuracy. These guns use of modern buller designs while my gun just shoots lead balls and lead bullets.

I would recomend a 50cal guns as most of the products found in stores is for this caliber.
