Marlin 60 or Mossberg Plinkster Empty
PostSubject: Marlin 60 or Mossberg Plinkster   Marlin 60 or Mossberg Plinkster I_icon_minitimeSun Aug 02, 2009 6:38 pm

Due to budgetary concerns brought on by my impending wedding (which I am paying for) I am in the market for an inexpensive .22 rimfire for Maine.

I've been considering either the mossberg 820 plinkster of the Marlin 60.

I know there are better choices for a .22, but I still think these are the best choices for lower priced guns...

Any Thoughts?

My vote is for the Marlin. I've got a 795 which is the mag fed version of the 60. I put a set of TechSights on it, added some weight to the stock, put a set of 1.25" swivels on it. I also cleaned up the hammer and sear a bit. This rifle shoots VERY well and is not fussy about ammo.

I have no experience with the Mossberg.

I would also go with the Marlin. I have owned 2 model 60's and a 795 and they were all accurate and reliable. The Mossberg rimfires I have handled felt very cheap compared to the Marlins. Mainly the stock.

You can always shop around for a used rimfire and save some money. It may have some dings and need to be cleaned but you can find some good deals.

after a lot of internet research, it seems like the marlins get better reviews...i'll have to hit up the local shops to try and find a used rim fire also...good call patriot...

I would also concur with the marlin model 60...Shot thousands of rounds threw one never had issues. One member of this board's gun as a matter of fact when we were just teen agers woods loafing. The model 60 was accurate and almost never jammed. It had to be very dirty to start jamming. I think that happened once and a good cleaning it was back in action.
