Stoves for Camping/Survival Empty
PostSubject: Stoves for Camping/Survival   Stoves for Camping/Survival I_icon_minitimeSun Mar 01, 2009 12:09 am

What is everyone using for stoves? These are two of the 4 stoves I currently have. I have been thinking of selling off the Whisperlite though since I tend to use the Pocket Rocket more.
Whisperlite: burns whitegas (coleman fuel) unleaded gas and kerosene. USes refillable fuel tanks
I have had mine since 95 and it's still running strong!!

Pocket Rocket: burns iso/butane mix in desposable tanks. I have had this for five or six years and at only 3oz minus the fuel it is very lite.

This is the XGK expedition stove that I would have loved to own when I started backpacking but the price has kept me from getting one. It's probably the ideal stove for a Survivalist as it will burn anything flamable. ie AV gas,bug spray etc.

I've been runnin' with the Pocket Rocket lately as well as a Peak1 dual burner Expedition. I traded my Whisperlite a few years ago but it was always reliable with the shaker jet.

I use the Exp for when there are a couple of us and we can do two dishes at once. It's been real reliable except for one of the plastic adj knobs became stripped, I just loctited it and it has been fine since. It uses the MAX fuel bottles which actually burn like 98% of it's contents, so you get good run time with a bottle.

The Pocket rocket is great since it is so small, I use that for small day trips or up in NH White Mnts when weight/space is crucial. I usually keep my MSR Ti kettle(fuel canister fits right inside) and Ti spork with this stove for one lightweight cookset which will dang near do it all.

Less we forget about the Sterno stoves of long days past and childhoods remembered. cheers
